GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD.

At the last meeting 0 the Auckland Grammar School Board of Governors there were present: Professor Thomas, chairman, Hon. J. A. Tole, Messrs. G. W. Murray, 8. J. Crookes, A. Harris, and C. J. Parr, M.P. The board commented upon the difficulty of increasing the accommodation at tho Howe Street and Epsom schools so as to meet with the increase of pupils. The chairman and Mr. Parr were deputed to arrange for a conference with the Acting-Prime Minister and the Hon. A. Myers with regard to tho need of financial assistance to provide more accommodation. The school committee reported that it had decided to continue the work on the wall, entrance way, and upkeep of tho Boys' Grammar School, and to postpone further development of the grounds. The application of the headmaster for additional appliances for the laboratory was granted, it being pointed out by the chairman that somo of tho appliances had not been delivered owing to the war. Misses Beaumont and Neal were granted leave of absence, the former for one term and tho latter for two terms. A committee wan appointed to arrange a scale of leave, according to th number of years of service. The report of the committee, recommending the erection'of a janitor's residence adjoining the Howe Street school was adopted. The proposed removal of a temI porary clais-roon) to the Epsom school, on j the completion of this residence, was also ' approved. The headmistress 'of t).e : Epsom school reported that the roll was now almost full, there being at present , 171 pupils. Miss Maud Barnett, 8.A., : of Victoria College, was appointed junior mistress, to .commence her duties at the | beginning of tho secpnd term.
