FOOTING GAINED IN THE FRENCH FIRST LINE. 9 ALL OTHER ATTEMPTS BROKEN BY FRENCH FIRE. Awtraliaa and N.Z. Cable. (Received 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 28. A French communique states: " Following a) violent bombardment of our positions west of Maison de Champagne, the Germans this morning lodged a strong attack and gained a footing in some elements of our first lino. All attempts on Maison de Champagne were broken by our fire, which inflicted sanguinary losses."
