EFFICIENCY BOARD'S WORK.
BUSHFELLING INDUSTRY. | CLASSED AS NON-ESSENTIAL. ' The National Efficiency Board has decided i that bushfelling is a non-essential industry. The matter came tip for consideration during the recent visit to Rotorua of Mr. A. W. Gillies, expert adviser to the board. When in conference with the various Trustee Boards, representing Rotorua and outlying districts, Mr. Gillies was informed by the Opotiki delegates that there was a great dearth of labour in the Bay of Plenty. They pointed out, moreover, that i many bushfelling contracts were in progress in the district, and that these were absorbing a great deal-of labour. At their request Mr. Gillies telegraphed to ; Mr. J. H. Gunson, who was in Wellington at the time, in his capacity as Auckland ' member of the Efficiency Board, recommending that bushfelling should be declared not to be an essential industry. It was further recommended that owners of bush should be urged to curtail bushfelling operations as much as possible, thus releasing labour. . Mr. Gillies received a reply from Mr. Gunson stating that these recommendations had been approved. In connection with the general work of , the Efficiency Board in the Auckland disj trict it has already been found.that the j scheme of Trustee Boards will have to.be I extended, as some of the districts are too ! large to bo dealt with under the present j organisation. The matter of further appointments is in hand.- ,',
