PAPER INDUSTRY.

COMMENCED IN QUEENSLAND. The Queensland Government has entered into an agreement with a syndicate whereby, in ' consideration of 'a (strip..' of land along the coast i south of Cairns, the company undertakes to manufacture paper and pay the Government . a royalty of Is on every ton sold. The paper is produced fiom ■ such grasses as blady, Chinese burr, and sida vetusa, ; and from lan tana, all; of which are, to be found on ; tho area granted. The land runs along the coast hear Cairns, from Clump Point to Trinity Bay—a fairly extensive 'area. The company;■ agrees■ to produce 50 tons -of pulp per month. ; -;■;,? Some years'■■ ago • another company contracted to manufacture'' paper from wood pulp in the Yarrainan district, and a piece of land there was granted, to them on these conditions. .Owing to some trouble tho paper could not, be manufactured, and Mr. Hunter threatened to cancel the agreement.
