It is officially - announced that the French battleship Danton was sunk in the Mediterranean last Monday. '. The Danton was struck by two torpedoes and sank in half an hour. ~ : Those saved numbered 805,.and 296 men were drowned. "'■' The Danton was of.the type known as semi-Dreadnought. She was of ,18,400 tons displacement, and was completed in. 1911. She carried four 12in • ./guns, twelve 9in, sixteen 12-pounders, and ten 3-ponnders; also two torpedo tubes.
