D HEARING AT AUCKLAND. l d ii PLEAS BY FARMERS. J £ Further appeals were considered by the, s First Auckland Military Service Board c yesterday. ' Although two brothers were at the front , and if he went as well it meant selling his stock, Percy Gibsou Cramp, dairy c farmer, Wellsford, said he considered it ] his duty to servo and that he could bo j j better spared than the married men. He j asked for exemption until the end of the milking season, and said that although his sisters would look after his farm while he was away tho cows would have to bo sold and the farm would go back to its natural state. Major Conlan said he liked to hear men speak like that, and the board agreed that appellant showed a i good spirit. Exemption until Juno 30 i was granted. Aitrcd E. Pearman, dairy farmer, . Wellsford, appealed on grounds of occu- ! pation and undue hardship. fie was tho . solo support of aged parents. A brother was working a iarm for his father, and |, appellant had a farm of his own. The board considered appel- : lant would be able to keep his dependants , on his military pay, and granted exemption until April 30. Albert L. Bowers, farmer, Cabbage Bay, appealed on the ground of occu- I pation. He was managing a farm for his■ brother, who was at the front, and an- j other brother was also a soldier. Dimes, farmer, Coromandel, said ho was managing a farm in the j absence of his brother at the front. Ho j waa also managing his father's farm. A ] younger brother had been rejected because he was too young, but ho would ! not be able to manage the farms.
