(Received 12.10 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 18. Sir Douglas Haig reports: "We conducted a successful operation . on both backs of the Ancre this morning, and made considerable / X " progress. We attacked south of the river, and captured positions , v; : on a. front of a mile and a-half opposite the villages of Miraumont ~ and Petit Miraumont, and penetrated over 1000 yds. We advanced . -;- J ' our zone to within a few hundred yards of Petit Miraumont. North ' .f of the river we captured an important position on the upper slopes ' |i*Tof.the spur northwards of Baillescourt Farm, on a front of 1000 yds. We successfully repulsed a counter-attack. The enemy's losses were Wm heavy."
