SETTLEMENT OF SOLDIERS WITHIN THE EMPIRE.
COMMITTEE SET lIP TO REPORT ON EMIGRATION. Australian and N.Z. Cable (Re»iv»jd 5 p.m.) LONDON, Fob. 15. The Press Bureau states that Mr. Walter Long, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has appointed a committee of 25 to report on measures for settling within the Empire discharged soldiers who desire to emigrate after the war. Tho committee will collect information from the troops, and make recommendations as to the steps Britain should take in concert with the Dominions, with a view to constituting a central authority to supervise and assist emigration. The committee includes Lord Tennyson, formerly GovcrnorGoneral of Australia (chairman), Lord Burnham, Sir Henry Rider Haggard, Mr. A. H. D. Steel-Maitland, Under-Secretary in- the Colonial Office, Commissioner Lamb, of the Salvation Army, tho High Commissioners, Agents-General, other members of the House of Commons, and Government officials.
