APPEAL FOR READING MATTER. Reading matter— and magazines —is urgently needed" by the Auckland ■Women's Patriotic League .for use on i transports and in camps and hospitals. j Letters received from soldiers show how J deeply appreciated such gifts are. In one letter, written at sea, occurs the following passage:--"The games and reading matter will be and are the cause of spending many a happy hour on board. Thanks to the good people of New Zealand, we are not wanting for anything, and hope wo will prove a credit to dear old New Zealand." The commandant at Motuihi, in a letter, stated .—" Please convey to the ladies of your association the hearty thanks of the N.CO.'s and men for your thoughtful gift of books and periodicals."
