BISHOP AS CHAPLAIN.
DR. CLEARY AT THE FRONT,
HEALTH MUCH IMPROVED, ■ " |L Letters received by this week's mail from'Sl Dr. H. W. Clean-, Roman Catholic Bishop H of Auckland, show that at the time of 1 writing he was in London, having just % returned for a short rest from the New ';■' Zealand camps in trance. ,:'"»
For some time past Dr. Geary has been on duty as an honorary chaplain to th New Zealand troops. To this position he was gazetted prior to his departure froc the Dominion, and, finding that the regular Roman Catholic chaplains sent from New Zealand were overworked, the bishop placed his own services at the disposal of the military authorities until the pressure should relax. As further Catholic chaplains have been sent with recent reinforcement drafts, it is probable that by this time the need for the bishop's assistance will have been removed.
Dr. Geary's health, according to the latest information, has greatly benefited in the course of his tour. Though there us yet no definite advice as to his plans for returning to Auckland, the ecclesiastical authorities have reason to believe that he will be back in his diocese in about April or .May.
