USE OF WAR FUNDS.

COMFORTS FOR THE CAMPS.

MORE LIBERALITY URGED.

REMARKS BY THE MAYOR.

Some discussion regarding the question of tho use of a portion of the patriotic fund's for the purchase of comforts for soldiers ill camp or on transports took place at yesterday's meeting of the Executive Coramittee of tho Auckland Patriotic Association. The Mayor, in speaking in regard to a letter expressing appreciation of a gift of a musical instrument to the hospital ship Maheno, said ho was inclined to think that the Auckland Association might do a little more in the matter of providing extra comforts for the men in camp and about to embark. " I think," added the Mayor, " that we should put ourselves in the positions of those officers and men, and look at matter/) from their point of view. They are making great sacrifices, and they do not ask for more than small things. I think that they are entitled to a little more consideration in the matter of small comforts." Mr. A. G. Lunn, whilst pointing out that the association should remember that it was handling public money, said he was inclined to agree that the association might do more in the direction indicated by the Mayor. ; The Mayor said that the matter might bo considered by the New Zealand Advisory Board, with a view of arriving at some decision, as a matter of concerted policy. It was agreed to ask Mr. V. J. Larner to bring the matter before the next meeting of the Advisory Board.
