CHARGE UNDER GAMING ACT.

_ 4* ALLEGED USE OF DOUBLE CARD. [by TELEGRAPH.— correspondent.] CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday. The Magistrate's Court was occupied the whole of this afternoon hearing a charge preferred by the police against Harry .Emanuel, financial agent, of Auckland, that in August last he published what is known as a "double card," in contravention of the Gaming Act. Emanuel was represented by Mr. Allan Moody, and pleaded not guilty. Senior-Sergeant Cassells | conducted the prosecution. Evidence in support of the charge was given by Constable Jackson, of Waihi, and Frederick Potts. Accused submitted that if he had handed double cards to Jackson and Potts it was done while he was partially under the influence of liquor. He had no knowledge who gave him the cards, and had no intention of using them for the purposes of gambling. Considerable argument look place, the magistrate eventually reserving his decision on law points raised.
