ON ACTIVE SERVICE.
[feom OTO OWX COBEESPOWDENT.] LONDON, Dec. 1. A number of New Zealand non-c6mmis-sioned officers have lately been promoted to the rank of second-lieutenant. Their names are as follows:—Arthur Robert Jacobson, Bernard Campbell Jeffreys, John George Rickleton, > Alan Herbert Vial, Arthur Weldon Easther. William Andrew Knox, Hoyden Nelson, Alfred John Coutts, Reginald Win. Dancey, Alt'red Edward Eskuilant, Charles Ronald McKenzie, Ralph Erskine Hewat, Frederick George McAuley, Frederick Comer, Frederick Wilson, John Lumley, Alfred James Whyte, Robert Dean Douglas, Jesse Rodgers, George Richardson, Andrew Hannah, Alfred James Tiddy, Frederick Charles Whittaker, Georgo Henry. Dr. Nimmo Watson (formerly of fnvercargill), who has been in practice for a good many years in Harrogate, is now in charge of the Anzac Hospital at Marseilles. He has lately had short furlough, which he spent in England. Sister Young, who was on board the ! Marquette at the time that vessel was tor- : pedoed, and was then posted for duty on the hospital ship Dunlnce Castle, has recently been on the staff of Queen Mary's Hostel in London, J3he has .now gone to the New Zealand Hospital, Walton-on-Thames. Sister E. Tukc, New, Zealand A.N.S., Auckland, is now on tho staff of the ftew Zealand Military Hospital, at Codford. She recently arrived from New Zealand by one of the transports. Second-Lieutenant J. B. W. Roberton, Auckland, who was slightly wounded in July, has been promoted to tho rank of lieutenant. Major the Hon. Nigel C. GathorneHardy, Riflo Brigade, has the rank of lieutenant-colonel while in command of a battalion. Lieutenant Basil Hoskins, who joined the R.N.V.R., at the beginning of the war, and has been acting as fleet-sur-geon for some time, is now taken on the strength of the New Zealand Medical Corps. Second-Lieutenant Allan Preston, New Zealand Machine-Gun Company, was at Buckingham Palace on Saturday, when he received the Military Cross from the King. Private L. W. Bell lias been discharged from the N.Z.E.F., to take up a commission in the R.N.R., and Private A. W. Abbey has been discharged to take a commission in the Imperial Armv. Colonel C. M. Begg, C.M.G., 'has relinquished his appointment of A.D.M.S. to the New Zealand division in France to become D.D.M.S. of the second Anzao Corps. His place is taken by LieutenantColonel "D. J. McGavin, who has been commanding the Now Zealand stationary hospital, and Lieutenant-Colonel McGavin s place was taken by Lieutenant-Colonel E. J. O'Neil, D.5.0., who has been in command of No. 1 Field Ambulance. Captain E. C. Dpvey, New Zealand Staff Corps, has been appointed second in command of the convalescent camp at Horuchurch, in succession to Major 'T.
