NEW FRENCH CHIEF OF STAFF.
Sift Arthur Conan Doyle, in his little book, " A Visit to Three Fronts," gives us a description of General Duport, the new Chief of the French General Staff. He is. we are told, a philosopher, a fatalist. impervious to fear, a dreamer of distant- dreams a*:iid the most furious bombardment. "in whatever shell-hole in might . hance to lunch he had his cloth spread, and decorated with wild tiowers plucked from the edge." He is said to be one of the most scientific soldiers of France.
