PATRIOTIC ENTERTAINMENTS.

FREE USE OF TOWN HALL.

The executive of the Auckland branch I of the Navy League applied to the City I Council last night for the free use of the concert chamber at the Town Hall for the purposes of an entertainment proposed to | be given by the girls' section on the even- ! ing of December 6 next. Mention was i made in the application of the work of I the league in assisting the dependants of | men of the navy. The request was granted provided the proceeds went to the league's relief fund. The Auckland Women's Patriotic League applied for the free use of the same hall for the afternoon of December 16 for a children's concert, also on December 9 for a rehearsal. They stated that the proceeds were to go to the Red Cross Fund. The request was granted. MISCELLANEOUS . THE TRAMWAY SERVICES. A report was submitted by the Public Services Committee on the motion carried at the previous meeting requesting it to investigate the running of the tramway services, in view of complaints of inconveniences and unnecessary delay caused to the public during the busy times of the day. The committee stated that as soon as the tramway services resumed their normal running it would take steps to obtain the necessary evidence. The Harbour Board's plan for the proposed deviation of the railway line to King's Wharf was formally approved. It was made provisional that the board should have the wood-blocking put right and the lines paved when the street was paved by the council.

The traffic inspector reported as a result of his annual inspection that the taxicabs and horse cabs plying for hire were in very fair condition. The number of horse cabs had been reduced to 33. On the recommendation of the city engineer it was decided to erect a bubblerfountain at the Remuera tram terminus at a cost of £6 10s. The suggestion that ii a public convenience were required at th'e same place it should be provided by +he Purewa cemetery authorities was approved. *
