MANAWATU SPRING SHOW.

AUCKLAND SUCCESSES.

PRIZES IN ART CLASSES.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWn CORRESPONDENT.]

PALHERSTOX NORTH. Wednesday. Several successes were gained by Auckland exhibitors at the Manawatu spring shew to-day. For some years past competition in art classes has been confined to rather a narrow circle locally, but this year Auckland provided a fine collection of work, and carried off some important prizes. The display of work by the pupils of the Auckland School of Art l * was very favourably commented upon by the judge, who said he thought the fact of such an important educational centre as Auckland competing would prove an incentive to Southern art students. The display from Auckland is regarded as an important addition to the show in artistic qualities, as well as numerically. Miss Connie Lloyd secured first for studies of foliage or fruit. In the drawing and painting section Miss M. S. Bothrell was first and J. Christofferson second in still life in colour. The latter also gained first in figure from life, black and whit*. Miss Edna Lippiatt gained first award in stencilling, in the design and art crafts section, and Miss E. Kearsley Henry first and Miss Catherine Dixon second in leather embossing, whilst Miss L. E. Bell secured first in high relief wood-carving. In the photographic section A. N. Breckon won first award in seascape or marine study, and gained second in portrait or figure study.
