SUCCESSFUL LOCAL OPERATIONS ON BRITISH FRONT.
CAPTURE OF IMPORTANT TRENCHES NEAR LESBOEUFS. GERMANS DRIVEN OUT OF SHELTERS BY ARTILLERY. Router. (Received 7.M p.m.) LONDON. Oct. 29. Sir Douglas Haig reports: " On Saturday morning we carried out successful local operations north-east of Lesboeufs, resulting in the capture of several irriportanfc trenches, and of eight officers and 61 men. Our bombardment was very effective, the enemy being driven out of his positions and exposed to rifle fire, " There have been artillery duels on other parts of the front," An earlier report stated: " Heavy rain fell during the night. The enemy's artillery was active south of the Ancre." A French report states: " Our artillery exploded a munition depot at Genermont, north-cast of Ablaincourt." Australian and N.Z- Cable. (Received 8.30 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, Oct. 28. A German communique states that infantry battles north of the Somnic recommenced yesterday. The British attacked from the Gueudecourt-Lesbccufs line and the French from Morval. The attacks were sanguinarily repulsed.'
