FURNISHING THE BATH ROOM.
Unless the room is large, the bath is perforce fixed against one wall, and the wall usually becomes very much splashed. Here is a hint to avoid the water from marking and spoiling the wall. Hing a straight piece of crash or linen just, the length of the hath and about 12in wide on the wall over the bath, finish it at the top by a one-inch hem through which ing on two hooks at each end. This strip of material might be embroidered along the edge and the shade * chosen a thin cane may be thrust, the latter restshould be echoed by the colour of the State assuming in ever greater degree the functions of parentage and arriving with a minimum of friction at the hour when it can logically decide who shall 1 be born, bath mat. Curtains and; a splash-mat over the hand-basin add effect to the whole when handworked to match the bath strip. If time is grudged for embroidery these dainty etceteras may be made of good unbleached calico stencilled with ordinary oil paints in conjunction with a stencilling medum. Conventional designs are best, and may be carried out in a two-toned colour scheme in browns or blues with a good result. Holland also looks very well when merely finished by a buttonholed edging. " The little stands which may be fixed to a bathroom wall to contain a tumbler, nail brush, etc., are worthy of note and aid as a reminder to the untidy members of the family that when there is a place for everything everything should be in iits place. The washable rugs which are obtainable in all colours are ideal for bathroom floors. Nothing should ever be placed in such rooms which is not washable. The careful housewife will see that a bath tray is always provided, which is necessary for holding the- occupant's soap and sponge, etc. Most people have experienced the discomfort of attempting to balance such things on the slippery edge of a bath and searching for them when they have fallen on to the floor.
