The Cunard Line announce that its steamer, the Alaunia, 13,400 tons, built in 1913, which was bound from New York to Falmouth, England, with 200 passengers on board, struck a mine in the English Channel, and after landing the passengers at Fal- i mouth, she sank. The captain and ' the majority of the crew were saved. SUBMARINES ACTIVE. NEtjTRAL VESSELS SUNK. Times LONDON, Oct. 19. The Copenhagen correspondent of the London Times states that German submarines are active in the North Sea. Five of the largest size are at the entrance to the Baltic. They torpedoed the Norwegian steamer Sten and the Swedish barque Gretha. DANISH STEAMER SUNK. A. and N.Z. Cable. LONDON. Oct. 19. The small Danish steamer Rosenvoid, of 750 tons, built in 1899, has been sunk. The crew landed safely.
