I HOSPITAL BOARD.
f | ' [bt TELOOEAPH.— correspondent.] | WAIHI. Saturday. The monthly meeting of the Waihi Hospital and 'Charitable Aid Board was held last Friday evening, the chairman, Mr. D. Donaldson, presiding. The medical superintendents monthly report gave.- the number of patients admitted to the hospital! as 29, discharged 29 H died 3, remaining* for treatment 38. The t matron, Miss? Taylor, had been offered a position, on ;thc v hospital ship Marama, and desired leave of absence for about six months. It was decided .to grant the necessary leave, subject to-being able to make satisfactory arrangements, to fill the position temporarily. The health officer, Mr.i Erwin, reported two. cases of infectious 'disease within the borough during | the,month. A letter, from the Education Department invited the board's assistance in preparing a complete list of all cases suited for admission to special schools for mentally defective children, and the board decided to make inquiries as local cases. Commerce was held last Thursday evening, thfc president, Mr. Mathieson. in the chair. In response to a letter, it was 1 decided to join with the Tatiranga Chamber": of Commerce in an endeavour to get the parliamentary representatives who intend> visiting the North of Auckland districts to - include the route of the East C'oaat-Gisborne railway in their itinerary. Jessop was appointed to the office. •' /'' ' ;f A? the result of the annual demonstration held by the Waihi Friendly Societies in aid of the district hosuital fund, a cheque for £67 was on Friday handed to the secretary of the Hospital Board. This sum, with the Government subsidy, will add £368 to the hospital maintenance fund. The annual meeting of the Waihi Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Thursday evening, Captain W. E. Roberts presiding. The icpoii showed .that the brigade consisted of sixteen active and One auxiliary member, and that 52 musters for practice had been held, at which the attendances had been satisfactory. Tliero had • been 31 calls—2o for fires; and 11 false alarms. The value of property . en-1 dangered by fire was £14,625, insured for £8830, and the damage only £1423. , The Auckland District Fire Brigades' vAssociation held their bi-annual demonstration in Waihi, when the local team won six of eight events, and the Association Shield, of : which the brigade became por- • majient owners. : The retiring • officers . were re-elected.
