THE CIVIL SERVICE BONUS.
Sir I was pleased to see a letter in the HjaRALf) of recent date," criticising , the " war bonus" to Civil 'servants. _ I think it Jis about timo this ... matter was reconsidered. Why should v ; the S best-paid body of men in the'country get a bonus Why are they.not prepared- to' sacrifice, the same as other: people ? Just .think of young men and woman , receiving extra pay! They are 1 , under very ,Ultito : extra expense; ■ they either bank most of : tho money or spend it on dress : or pleasure. The rest of the community get no extra pay,, at least, most of them j somo get reduced, and others lose' their jobs, etc. The man who should get a'bonus <s the one who 'goes to the front; but \faiat do wo find Maybe lie has a mother to support; he gives up a good, job, then out' of the! paltry pay he gets from the Government he has to find an extra £5 per cent on his life insurance: then after that comes ,the great sacrifice. .-.That is f|io kind of bonus he gets. Compare the two. I do think the country should' pav tho extra war premium, r and dron r the other, ■' r • ■; T'aiu - Play; '
