Mb. J. Fuller, jun., was a passenger for Wellington by the Main Trunk express last night. Lieutenant J. L. McArthur, of Featherston, is visiting Auckland. Ha is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. S. de Beer, of Dunedin, left Auckland for the South by the mid-day express on Saturday. Mr. George Elliot will be a passenger to Sydney by the Niagara this week, accompanied by Mrs. Elliot. Mr. W. E. Rawson, Judge of tho Native Land Court, is visiting Auckland. He ig staving at the Royal Hotel. Colonel J, E. Hume, officer commanding the Wellington military district, left for Wellington by the express last night. Mr. Jackson Palmer, Chief Judge of tho Native Land Court, was a. passenger for tho South by the express last night. Mr. J. H. Upton, acting-chairman of directors of the Hank of New Zealand, returned from Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Mr. F. de Lautour, of Gisborne, arrived in Auckland by the Tarawera yesterday afternoon. Ho'is staving at the Central Hotel. Mr. C. J. Reakes, director of the livestock and meat division of tho Department of Agriculture, left Auckland by the midday express on Saturday for Wellington, Mr. R. W. Dalton, British Trade Commissioner for New Zealand, and Mrs. Daiton. arrived in Auckland from Wellington yesterday. They arc staving at the Grand Hotel. Advice has been received in Wellington that Lieutenant T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., has met with an accident, and is in hospital in France. Tho injury is not of a serious nature, and bo expects to be able to return to duty soon. The Rev. W. Mclnnes, of Matamata, has received a call to Waipukurau, Hawke's Ray. At a special meeting of the Waikato Presbytery tho call was sustained and accepted by the rev. gentleman. Mr. Mclnnes has filled the position of clerk to the presbytery for a considerably period, and the Rev. D. J. Shaw, of To Awamutu, has been appointed to that office. The Rev. Hector McLean, M.A., 8.D.. of Knox Church, Invercargill, enlisted last week as a private, and will proceed to Trentham Camp some time next month. Mr. McLean, when he left Scotland, fully intended to enlist as soon as he arrived in the Dominion, but in Wellington he was persuaded, on account of the scarcity of ministers, to take a chargo in the meantime. Captain Pelly, who received the Companionship of tho Bath in recognition of gallant services rendered in the Jutland naval battle on May 31, was well known in Auckland some years ago. Ho was a junior lieutenant on H.M.S. Tauranga, ono of the four third-class cruisers which were attached to the Australasian naval squadron in 1896. Captain Pelly was then a frequent visitor to Auckland, and he has many friends here.
Commissioner H. C. Hodder, officer commanding the Salvation Army in Now Zealand, arrived in Auckland on Saturday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Hodder and by Brigadiers Bray and Hoaro. Commissioner Hodder officiated at the opening of a young people's hall at Otahuhu on Saturday. He conducted services in the city and Newmarket halls yesterday, and today he will preside at the welcome ceremony to be extended to Lieutenant-Colonel J. Mclnnes, the newly-appointed chief secretary {or New Zealand, who is due to arrive by the Niagara.
