CONSCRIPTION ISSUE. LABOUR MEMBERS' SUPPORT. A. and N.Z. Cable. MELBOURNE. Sept. 16. The House of Representatives continued the conscription debate. Several of the Labour members pledged their support. Mr. Charlton said he saw no objection to a referendum, but there should be no half measures. If they were going to conscript life, all incomes over a living wage should go into the common exchequer. The Prime Minister, Mr. W. M. Hughes, stated that if the referendum wore carried the sons of naturalised Germans would bo liable for service at the Governor's discretionSHORTAGE IN RECRUITING. TWELVE HUNDRED MEN. (Revived 11.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Sept. 17. Official enlistment figures show a shortage of 1200 for the first half of September.
