OPEN-AIR SCHOOLS.
EXPERIMENT IN WELLINGTON.
Experiments with open-air classrooms for primary schools have been fried recently in New Zealand, and, according to a report from the Department which was before the Wellington Education Board at its last meeting, the experiment has proved a success. Records of Iho working of tho openair classrooms in Wellington South showed that tho children benefited both physically and mentally, and both scholars and teachers preferred tho open-air rooms. In view of this the Department proposes to try the scheme in a number of native schools, and information as to the best type of building is being sought from the educational authorities in England, Canada, and the United States. When this information is obtained the Department hopes to bo able provide for open-air classes, where the climatic conditions are at all favourable. ■
