NO ATTEMPT BY GERMANS TO RECOVER LOST GROUND. FOURTEEN GUNS AND 2500 PRISONERS CAPTURED. Australian and N.Z. Cable. (Received 8.5 p.m.) TARIS. September 4. A communique states: "We have made further important gains north of the Somme. "W« took 2500 prisoners on Sunday and Monday. In the Fleury district on Monday we took 500 prisoners." An earlier report stated: " The enemy did not attempt last night to recapture the positions north of the Somme, which wo captured on Sunday. Fourteen cannon were captured here. We arc actively organising our new positions. Bad weather hinders operations." General von Hindenburg, chief of the German General Staff, has been inspecting the Somme front, where General von Gallwitz is in command.
