HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM. [BY TELEGMrH.—PIIESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Monday. The High Commissioner's market report, dated London, September 2, is as follows, quotations unless otherwise specified being average market prices on spot:— MEAT. Lower prices are being accepted for Argentine mutton and lamb, owing to increasing supplies of New Zealand mutton and lamb. Argentine lamb is very scarce. Mutton: New Zealand, per lb, &|d; ewe, Bid; Argentine, 9Jd; Dutch (first arrivals this season), Bid for heavyweight. There are plenty of buyers of lightweight mutton. Lamb: New Zealand, 9£d; Argentine, lOgd. Scotch lambs, in good supply, best quality, 13d. Beef: There are no supplies of New Zealand available. Argentine, chilled, hinds, Hi; fore, 7 3-sd. BUTTER. The market is very quiet, and there is but little business. Danish salted, per cwt, 196s to 198s; Dutch salted, 180s to 182s; Irish creamery sailed, 180s to 184s; New Zealand (stocks light), salted, 185s to 188s; Argentino salted, 182s to 184s. CHEESE. The market is quiet, but steady. Prices have a hardening tendency. Canadian white, per cwt, 103s to 104s, coloured 103 a to 104s: English Cheddar, 114s to 116s; New Zealand (light stocks), whito 102s to 104s, coloured 102s to 104s; United States, flats, whito, 102s. HEMP. The market is firm at an advance. Good fair New Zealand hemp, per ton, to £49 10s, fair to £47 10s; Government graded fair Manila, £52, coarse £49; forward shipment good fair New Zealand, to £49; Government graded fair Manila to £51, coarse £48 10s. The output of hemp at Manila for the week ending last Saturday was 24,000 bales. WHEAT. The market is rather unsettled on account of Roumania entering the war. Quotations for September are normal and irregular. Canadian shipment, 665; Octo-ber-November, 655. OATS. The market is quiet but firm. Argentine, spot, 31s, WOOL. The market is active, with good demand for coarse crossbreds of all grades. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London office under date Ist instant:—" Cheese: Market has a weaker tendency. 102s to 104s per cwt."
