ALIENS IN THE NORTH.
VIEWS OF COMMISSION.
SEGREGATION UNLIKELY.
The report of the Aliens Commission, which recently inquired into tho charges of disloyalty made against the Dalmatian gumdiggers, is now under the consideration of the Government.
It is stated that in the opinion of the commission the evidence given before it regarding the conduct of the Dalmatian residents of the North of Auckland does not support the serious allegations of disloyalty which it was directed to investigate.
After their tour of the North in July the members of the commission stated that none of tho witnesses whom they examined were in favour of the internment of the Dalmatians either at Parengarenga or elsewhere. It is understood that as a result of the commission's report the proposal to segregate the general body of single Dalmf - tian unnaturalised gumdiggers at Pirengarenga is not likely to be carried out. The Hon. Jas. Allen, Minister for Defence, who was questioned last evening regarding tho report of the commission, said that he was unablo to give any information regarding it at present. "All that I can say," be said, "is that the Auckland people may allow their minds to bo perfectly at rest regarding the Dalmatians in the North of Auckland."
