MINING NEWS.

TAIRUA BROKEN HILLS. The statutory meeting of the Tairua Broken Hills Gold Mining Company. Ltd., which was to have been held last-cveninsr, lapsed for want of a quorum, and was adjourned for a week. The directors had prepared a report for presentation, which stated that on August 11 the shares allotted totalled 60,000, of 2s each. The total amount received in respect of such shares was £1883 6s Bd. The payments amounted to £1803 19s 2d, leaving a balance of £79 7s 6d in cash. A' further report for the information of | shareholders states that two directors, Messrs. Wilkinson and Joyce, visited the company's property and plant on July 26. They found that the water-race was in fair order, and had been cleared for half a mile. Repair work on .it was proceeding, and should be completed by the end of September. The main part of the plant and the battery, with* its contents, were in excellent order. In. regard to the mine itself some cleaning-up would have to be done. The main drive had been driven in an easterly direction for some 800 ft to 1000 ft, and was in good order. Among the several reefs which it intersected was the Blucher reef. The crosscut continued eastward from the intersection of the Blucher reef for another 600 ft to 800 ft, and cut several promising reefs, only one of which had been worked to any extent. The report concludes by stating that the visiting directors were well satisfied with the mine and its prospects.

WAIHI GOLD MINING COMPANY. The following cablegram has been forwarded to the London office of the Waihi Gold Mining Company:—"ln No. 12 level, the drive on the Dreadnought lode ■west of No. 4 shaft, north-west crosscut, from 78ft to 144 ft, was off the course of the lode; the next 62ft driven, from 144 ft to 206 ft west, was worth 10s 3d a ton."
