SHORTAGE OF PIG IRON.

i PROHIBITION OF EXPORT. DOMINIONS' OBJECTIONS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 9.40 p.m.) LONDON", August 25. Owing to the shortage of pig iron the Government thinks that over many tin plates, are being manufac-' tured. The Ministry of Munitions therefore has notified manufacturers that the export has been entirely prohibited, except under license; also that it will permit only the manufacture of plates required for Government contracts of which particulars must be furnished.

At the request of shippers, Sir John McCall, Agent-General for Tasmania, is making representations to the authorities, urging that the Dominions be placed on a different footing from neutrals, and pointing out the hardship of imposing restrictions now that the Dominion suppliers have completed arrangements for contracts for 1916.
