1 ' THE TELESCOPIC LADDER. The Auckland Eire Board met yesterday. There were present: Messrs. D. Goldie, „ chairman, H. P. Kissling, J. J. Kingston, R. Tudehope, A. J. Entrican, P. M. sMackay, and H. Walkley. • The question as to whether the horse- -- drawn, telescopic ladder should be converted f into a mechanically-driven vehicle was discussed. It was reported that a price had been submitted by one Auckland firm for the ■ work—namely, £420. It was re- • solved to take advantage of the firm's offer to give demonstration before a final pur- % chase is decided upon. •' _.A letter was received from the Dunedin . Fire Board, forwarding a copy of a resolution passed and sent to the Minister for v Munitions, the Hon. A. M. Myers, in regard to preventing the calling, up for •: service in special branches of the militia - forces of fully qualified firemen, it being stated that the ranks of the brigades were • being depleted of some of their most use- , ful units by this course of action. The Auckland Board decided to give its sup- -. port to the resolution.
