-♦■ MEETING OF DRAINAGE BOARD. FROM OUR i.wn CORRESPONDENT. TrrE Hautapu Drainage Board met the other day, Mr. W. J. Andrews presiding. A vale of sympathy was passed with Mr. M- '■>• Walking, whose sou was recently killed in action. 'Hie chairman reported that lie had interviewed Mr. Whswell re a portion of his land being included in the. area at the south-western end of the Hautapu drainage district, as petitioned for by a number of the settlers residing there. Mr. Whewell was agreeable to such a course provided he was exempted from paymeut of rates on such portion. The chairman, said it was impossible to do that, and the petitioners would consequently have to find another method of dealing with the matter. The secretary of the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association has received notice that the following have passed the recent first aid examinations: — Misses Campbell. K. Christie, Clitfen, Cox, J. McFarlftne, and A. McXaughton. Home nursing: Messrs. A. Birtelsen and T. Vanes. First-class passes were obtained hv .Misses Brooks. Bvcroft (2), M. Christie, M. Watt, Willis, and Mrs. Ma. ky. Messrs. (_'. Rune and J. Christie. The Taranaki Presbytery has sustained the call from the Cambridge congregation to the Rev. T. H. Roseveare. of New Plymouth. Mr. Roseveare has intimated his acceptance. The local branch of the Farmers* Union in lieu of the social that it has been the custom to hold annually, held an enjov able conceit on Wednesday evening, whet despite wet weather, there was an attend ance of 340. 'Hie proceed? are for the Women's Hospital and War Fund, and, with the sale of sweets and flowers, the amount should bo large. The chairman of the branch, Mr. W. J. Andrews, intimated that the union was about tc embark in another movement for the bene fit of the distressed Belgians, in which eggs would take an important part during the spring and summer. At the last meeting of the Leamingtoi Road Board the clerk was instructed U communicate with the Postmaster-Genera asking if there is any truth in the. rumoui that the Government contemplates closing the Leamington post office and stating thai resident- would object to such a step, ft is stated that if the Leamington office is closed the delivery of letters will lie niadf from Cambridge, which would mean two deliveries dailv.
