IHGH SCHOOL BOARD.

At a meeting of the Board of Governor? of the High School, a lengthy discussion arose on the question of technical education, and the position of the board in regard thereto. It was agreed to hold a special meeting at an early date to go fully into the question, and, in the meantime, all available information is to he gathered in reference to the genesis of the High School. It is being contended that the public had subscribed some £250 < r £300 for the establishment of a model Technical College, and that this had been converted into the present institution for secondary education.
At the nursing examination of the St. John Ambulance Association, for ladies, Misses Beach and Worsley passed in nursing in the first class: Misses Brown, Chitty, Exley, Lowe, Mellor, and Miller passed in nursing. At the last meeting of the Kirikiriroa Road Board the Public Works Department wrote in reference to Proctor's Road, Taupiri. and stated that if the board would undertake to accept responsibility for maintenance of the road and certain culverts, the balance of the authoritywould be paid. This was agreed to. Regarding Sedgwick's Road. between Mangawara and Orini, the Huntly Road Board submitted certain proposals, but it was resolved to adhere to a previous decision, to the effect that, the board's surveyor would lay out the road at petitioner's expense, and that the settlers raise -a loan to form and metal it. A petition from certain ratepayers on the Mangawara Plains, asking that steps be taken to transfer their properties from the Huntly Road District to Kirikiriroa, was declined. Several ratepayers petitioned the board to raise a special loan for easing a grade and road formation in the Kainui district. The proposal was sympathetically considered, but it was decided to interview the petitioners on the matter of extending the areas. Petitions for and against a proposal to raise a loan of £1500 for road works on the Freshfield Estate were received, and the board agreed to take a poll, provided the supporters lodged a sum of £25 to cover the expenses of the poll, should it he lost.
At a meeting of the Hamilton Domain Board it was reported that the wild fowl on the lake, which is a sanctuary for native came, were being thinned out Inguns. 'J Ik- chairman, Mr. A. Swarbrick. stated that there was a .severe penalty provided for an offence of this nature, and all the evidence required bv law to obtain a conviction was proof of a person heme seen in the vicinitv of a sanctuary with a gun. It was decided to oiler a reward of £5 for information leading to a conviction. Complaints were received of hockey, etc., being played on the Doir-am grounds on Sun/lav. The chairman undertook to draft a prohibitory by-law dealing with the matter. Several requests for a reduction of rents on heet land leases were received, as the pre.en' tents, combined with the rates, were ;e----garded as exorbitant bv the lessees The chairman expressed the opinio,, that.'such lands were exempt from rate,, and «„.,- pted that he should obtain an outside legal opinion on the point.
