WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.
[BT TELEPRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
HAMILTON. Saturday. At the last meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board, the Minister for Justice, in reply to a communication from the board, promised to look into the matter of payment of hospital fees for prisoners treated in the institution. The board's solicitors advised in connection with the refund of fees to members of the Expeditionary Force for operations performed, that such rebates could not, under the War Contributions Validation Act, be made to a private patient, but that it could be paid as a grant to the local patriotic fund with the understanding that the trustees of such fund would hand it over to tin- patient. It was reported that an X-ray apparatus had been installed at the hospital, and the actingsuperintendent. Dr. Hyde, described it as the finest in the Dominion. The Minister for Public Health intimated his willingness to renew the agreement for another year in regard to the administration of the Rotorua Hospital. Tenders are to be called for furnishing the additions of the nurses' home. A request was received for the establishment of a cottage hospita l at Huntly. It was recognised that it was advisable! to have some better and more expeditious method of treatment of accident cases at Huntly. It was suggested that the provision of a modern motorambulance would probably meet the case. The matter was referred to the House and Legal and Finance Committees to consider and report.
