AUSTRALASIANS AND NEW ARMY TROOPS ENGAGED.
VERY HEAVY LOSSES INFLICTED UPON THE GERMANS. High Commissioner"B Cable. (Received 7 p.m.) LONDON. August 5. A British official report states:— A local attack on Friday night, north of Pozieres, in which Australasians and new army engaged, was completely successful. The German main second line system was captured on a front of over 2000 yards, and several hundred prisoners were taken-
Repeated counter-attacks subsequently delivered against the positions captured were repulsed with very heavy losses.
" Except for some mining activity near Souchez and Loos there was no incident of importance elsewhere."
