EARLY SETTLER'S DEATH.
MR. EDWIN CARR.
Auckland's fast-diminishing band of pioneers sustained another loss yesterday in the death, at his son's residence, Williamson's Avenue, Grey Lynn, of Mr. Edwin Carr. The deceased was born in London in 1834. and arrived in Auckland, where lie had resided until the time of his death, by the ship Morning Star in 1861. Shortly after his arrival he entered business as a boat-builder, a calling he followed for a number of years. Subsequently he entered the employ, as managing salesman. of the Union Sash and Door Company, and I later he held a similar position with the New Zealand Timber Companv. Ho retired in 1896, but did not relinquish his interest in public life. He was an ardent church worker, being a member of the. Church of Christ for over 50 years, and was also a temperance advocate.
Mr. Can - was married in England, his •wife, who died two years r.ju, comin£: - »to the Dominion with him. He is survived by three sons, one of whom, Mr. K. J. Carr, is a member of the City Council and Harbour Board, two daughter?, 36 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
