SURPRISES FOE ZEPPELINS
GOVERNMENT'S ASSURANCES
Aust. and N.Z. Cable. LONDON, August 2.
« In the House of Commons last night Mr. Pemberton Billing and other members sharply criticised the air defences, stating that reports reaching them suggested that defence against aircraft had not reached expectations, and that the laxity had aroused angry feelings. The fact that seven Zeppelins were able to tour seven counties and return safely to Germany, on the eve of the second anniversary of the war had aroused great resentment. Major Baird, on behalf of the Government, indicated that unpleasant surprises, -which it was impossible to disclose at present, were in store for the German raiders.
