ALTERATIONS TO PREMISES.
SOUTH BRITISH INSURANCE CO.
Again the old Post Office is to be used as the temporary home of a company which has outgrown its present quarters, the South British Insurance Company being about to vacate its building during extensive alterations-
The matter was considered at a meeting of directors held yesterday morning, when the tender of Messrs. Craig and Sons was accepted for the work, for which Messrs. Ed. Bartley and Sons are the architects. The work will consist mainly of the remodelling of the interior of each floor. A number of partitions will be removed, the full floor-space being utilised for one large office on each floor, with separate rooms for the officers of the company. A lift and staircase will be installed in the north-east corner of the building. The only alteration to the facade will be the erection of the lift-tower, which is to be of steel construction and reinforced concrete, and which will add greatly to the appearance of the Shortland Street front.
