WATCHMAN.
CEASING OPERATIONS.
The directors of the Watchman Gold Mining Company have decided to close the company's mine and battery at Thames in the meantime and apply for protection. This course was decided upon owing to the fact that the ore mined and treated lately has not been of a payable nature. It is understood that the directors contemplate merely a temporary cessation of operations, and that mining will probably be resumed after the war.
The manager in his last report states that there is still a quantity of ore on hand to be crushed. After this is completed the sand and sTimes will be cyanided and the battery plates and tables cleaned up. This work will probably take about a month to complete.
The Watchman Company was formed in December, 1911, and has produced to date gold valued .at £24,973 19s. No dividends have been paid. The company has latterly been employing about 25 men.
