THE HARBOUR BOARD.
ST. GEORGE'S BAY WORK.
INTERFERENCE OF WET WEATHER.
At a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday it was decided to extend for a further period of six months the leave of absence and half-pay already granted to the office and permanent members of the staff now cm active service.
The following members were present : — Messrs. H. D. Heather, chairman, W. E. Hutchison, A. J. Entrican, P. J. Nerheny, E. W. Alison, H. R. Mackenzie, W. B. Leyland, W. Wallace, F. Quin, M. H. Wynyard, and E. J. Carr.
The Marine Department wrote that the Minister for Marine had approved of a portion of Hobson Bay being reserved as an explosives anchorage for shipments not exceeding five tons.
The Navy League sent a letter thanking the hoard fro- its donation of £500 to the North Sea Relief Fund.
A letter was read from the Harbours Association of New Zealand, stating that it had been decided not to hold a conference of the association this year. A letter was read from the Avondalo Road Board, asking if the board would offer any objection to a portion of the foreshore in Whau Creek being vested in that body for the purpose of a park. Mr. Entrican thought the matter should be referred to a committee, and for a report of the engineer, hut it was decided not to offer any objection to the Road .Board's ysroposal. The engineer reported that the work of dredging at Waiuku was now completed. The request of the Manukau Yacht and Motor-boat Club for a protected yacht anchcTage was granted. The engineer stated that bad weather had seriously interfered with the work of St. George's Bay reclamation, and that the consistency of the. Tilt at the eastern end was proving troublesome to cover with dry earth. The work at the Quay Street extension was not being urged, as it was proposed to give ample time for settlement before the complete formation was tak;n in hand.
The worst holes in the King's Drive Road, are receiving attention, the engineer reported, adding that it would be desirable that the maintenance of the road should pass out of the hands of the board as early as possible.
