AUCKLAND FRENCH CLUB.
Is honour of the French national fete, which fell on Friday last, there was a large and enthusiastic reunion of the French Club on Monday evening in the Women's Club rooms. The president, Prof. Maxwell Walker, assured M. Julien Rigoreau, the French Consul, of the warm regard of New Zealanders for France. In reply. M. Rigoreau thanked the president for his expressions of friendship. The French, he said, were engaged in a titanic struggle against barbarism. The presence of New Zealand and British troops in France could not fail to bring about a fuller understanding of the greatness of the French people, and unite them in closer bonds of union with their British allies. A musical and elocutionary programme, which was greatly enjoyed, was contributed by the following: — Miss (iower and Mr. C. Duflou, pianoforte solos : Misses (iunimer, K. Holland and (I. Campion, songs: and Mrs. Foley, recitation. The si enette, " Pendant La Bataille." was given, the characters being as follows: — Mine. Diazal. Mrs. Duflou: Le Capitaine. Mr. Clark : I-e Serjeant J. Drazal. Mr. K. Watkin ; l.c Petit Desire, Mr. A. K. Turner.
