At the quarterly meeting of the Chamber jot Commerce a letter was received from the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce asking support of a resolution expressive of appreciation of the establishment by the railways manager of the office of commission agent, and urging that should a vacancy occur a strictly commercial man should be appointed. Members considered, there was an ambiguity about the resolution, and no action was taken. It was decided to support the Patatere branch lof the Farmers' Union in the endeavour 'to have carried out a deviation on the | Rotorua Road at Tapapa. At the annual meting of the Beantifving Society the balance-sheet showed a credit of over £7. Officers for the en suing year were elected as follows President, Mr. H. Alan Bell ; vice-president, Mr. T. Hartlv: committee, Messrs. G. H. i Ollard, J. Browning, A. W. Gare E. N. I Souter, G. H. Wallace, C. H. Priestley, j and E. J. Wilkinson : hon secretary and : treasurer, Mr. T. P. Walshe; auditor, Mr. E. Veale. It was agreed to commence j operations at once. The improvement to I be made first will be in the vicinity of | Victoria Bridge. Later on it is hoped to make a path along the .river bankMr. H. Vause, who has been teaching for several years past in the High School here, has enlisted, and leaves for the training camp next week. Mr. G. G. L. Taylor, a local dentist, goes into camp about the same time. The committee of the Cambridge Rifle Club decided to again make application for a supply of ammunition. The Leamington Town Board met on I Thursday evening. Mr. W. White preI siding. Several applications re road repairs were referred to the Work- Committee. The clerk was instruct notify all builders in the district newbuilding by-law. The members of the B.ipt:>i Church held a social on Thursday evening, in honour of the newly-appointed pastor, the Rev_ W. Perry, formerly of Waihi and Hamilton. A meeting of the Tenement Drainage Board was held on Saturday. Mr. R. Swayne presiding. Notice was given to make and lew a drainage rate as under : —Class A. id : class B. id : class C, id in the £ for the year ending March 31. 1917. '
