CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS.
BENEFIT FOOTBALL MATCH
KINGS V. GRAMMAR SCHOOL
The campaign for funds for the relief of starving Belgian children was materially t assisted on Saturday, when a football , match between the King's College and f Auckland Grammar School teams was held 1 on the Show Grounds, Epsom. The I weather was most inclement. The^arrange- , ments, however, were well organised, and ( a gathering of adults and young people, . estimated at 6000, assembled to witness L the match. The takings were estimated at £162, and the expenses at £12. The Bel- , gian Consul. Mr. A. M. Ferguson, was I present. The organisers, Messrs. J. U. i Collins and F. A. Airey, had the heaijty ' ! support of the Auckland Agricultural and ! | Pastoral Association, who had given the , free use of the grounds, and the officials ,| of the Auckland Rugby Union, Senior I Cadets' Association, and the Public ' I Schools' Union, which postponed all j matches arranged for the day in order not 1 jto detract from the attendance in any 1 j way. I j • The matches between these school teams , ; have always created much interest, and on j Saturday the enthusiasm of the spectators ] i knew no bounds. The colours, red and ' gold for King's College, and blue and gold for Grammar School, were liberally displayed. DONATIONS TO THE FUND. TOTAL NOW AMOUNTS TO £2134. Further donations amounting to £162 15s 4d were received by the Belgian Consul, Mr. A. M. Ferguson, on Saturday towards the Belgian Children's Fund, this making a total of £2134 7s 4d.
