FOOTBALL INCIDENT.
♦ RIVAL SCHOOL COLOURS. An unusual incident occurred in front of the crowded grandstand during the proj gress of the benefit football match between J King's College and Auckland Grammar j School at the Show Grounds, Epsom, on I Saturday afternoon. The colours of King's College were floating in the form of a flair from a masthead in front of the stand. when a man went forward and lowered them. This caused considerable merriment among the spectators. A lit *e later the man took a small flag representing the Grammar School colours and ran it to the masthead. His action was the signal for a rush forward by several scores of young men, who were for the most part above school age. Sides were at once taken, and a general scuffle for the possession of the two flags ensued. The struggle lasted for several minutes- and detracted the attention of the crowd from the match. As far as could be judged there was no show of ill-feeling, although the participants were not dispersed until a police, constable had exerted considerable physical effort in separating them. The mast was left for the remainder of the afternoon without a flag.
