NEW CEMETERY OPENED.
MOUNT ROSKILL PROTEST.
The new cemetery at Mount Roskill was opened yesterday when the first funeral took place. The interment was conducted by the Rev. E. C. Budd. As the cemetery is the property of the Onehunga Borough Council that body was represented by three members, Messrs. H. J. Davies, T. H. Pardington, and W. J. Brewm, and Mr. H. A. Yockney, town clerk. The land used for the cemetery was recently purchased by the Onehunga Borough Council from the trustees of the late Mr \Y. Coleman, and wad known as the Coleman Estate, Hillsboro.
Yesterday the chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, Mr. John Parr, forwarded the following telegram to the Hon. G. W. Russell. Minister for Public Health and Internal Affairs:—"Burial in Mount Roskill at proposed cemetery today. Petition goes forward to-night, supported by medical opinion that no cemetery should be established at the site in question. Again urge you to prevent this property being used as cemetery. Understood that status quo would be preserved pending receipt of petition, and presume fact of burial taking place unknown to von."
