The Duke of Somerset stated in the House of Lords that letters from officers in Mesopotamia disclosed a disgraceful state of affairs. He had been informed that 1000 wounded soldiers had been sent down in one boat in charge of one officer and one orderly. Their wounds had not been dressed until they arrived at Bombay.
