[BY TELEGnAPn.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Te Kciti,, Saturday. The Canadian Trade Commissioner, Mr. W. A. Beddoe, delivered an address on Friday evening under the auspices of the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce. There was a good attendance, and the Mayor, Mr. R. M. Somerville, presided.
Mr. Beddoe dealt exhaustively with the question of Empire Trade, and pointed to tbo great increase in the commerce between Canada and New Zealand as a result of the reciprocal preferential tariff and the providing of proper shipping facilities. He reviewed the methods of German commercial organisation, and the rapid growth of German imports throughout the Empire, as a result of British lack of commercial organisation. The necessity for close co-operation by all tho units of the Empire, with a view of fostering industries and commerce within the Empire and erecting a prohibitive tariff wall »gainst German imports, was emphasised.
