ECONOMIC CONFERENCE.
COMPLETE UNANIMITY.
ALLIES' AIMS THREE-FOLD
NO TRADE WITH ENEMY.
(Received Juno 18. 5.5 v.m.)
PARIS. JUNE 17. In an interview published in the Petit Journal M. Pokowssi, a Russian delegate to the Economic Con|ference of the allies in Paris, states that the conference was most satisfactory. There was complete unanimity on all questions. Sir George Foster, the Canadian representative, said that when the results of the conference were Jknown it would be seen that the allies had displayed a spirit of loyalty and confidence, and had laboured zealously to achieve the common aim and make it impossible for an economic conquest, or for commercial activity by the Central Powers either in Europe J orjn other parts of the world.
The result of the conference, he continued, should have a greatly favourable influence upon the conduct of the war on land and sea. It would also guarantee against any surprise defeat in the economic and commercial domain which would otherwise seem to threaten them.
The Petit Parisien says the allies' common policy and aims are threefold :-
Firstly to render absolute the policy already formulated for the total prohibition of trade between subjects of the allies and the enemy. Secondly to provide for industrial restoration in the regions which have suffered by the war.
Thirdly to transform radically the system of commercial treaties existing before the war.
The conference adopted measures to avert possible dangers in the period between the cessation of hostilities and the signing of peace. It is intended to preserve the allies' markets from invasion by the merchandise which is lying in enormous quantities in the warehouses of the Central Empires.
