The wheat market is distinctly firmer, but whether this is due to the statement : recently made by the Prime Minister in I reference to the Dominion's wheat supply •it is difficult to say. Several large sales , between merchants and millers are re--1 ported to have taken place, and other j sales are under consideration. There is not a large quantity offering by growers, who are now holding more firmly. Tuscan wheat, which is the most plentiful, has advanced in price, and grain that recently . was worth only 4s is now selling at 4s 2d to 4s 3d. A higher figure is also reported Ito have been paid for a large line. The oats market is also firmer, but most of the business is being done in Southland. i The oats market there is dull, in conI sequence of the difficulty of obtaining shipping space. There are practically no I locally-grown oats offering, and quotations i are therefore only nominal. Oatsheaf chaff I is also firm, and supplies are fairly scarce. i The potato market has advanced. £5 10s jto £5 15s has been paid, according to ! railage. For delivery this month and for July delivery £6 is "offered. The Sydney market has firmed, but not sufficient to admit of any export from New Zealand at a profit on present local prices. BUTTER AND EGGS. The Dairy Produce Committee has fixed the wholesale prices of butter and eggs for the week ending June 24 as follows: — Farmers' butter, first grade, per lb, lid; fresh eggs, per dozen, Is 9d.
