DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PUBLIC AND GOVERNMENT. THASOS OCCUPIED BY FRENCH MARINES. SALONIKA. JUNE 11. The action of the allies ip restricting Greek trade has accentuated the differenc.es between the public and the Government. The people are strongly pro-ally. The allies have allowed a number of Greek vessels to leave port.. Thasos, an island south of Kavala, is in the formal occupation of French marines. There was no surprise among the population, who received the marines favourably. Thasos is valuable to the allies as a base, close to the Bulgarian coast for operations against submarines.
