NORTHERN WAIROA.
INCREASED BUTTER OUTPUT. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Darqavtlle, Saturday. The growth of the dairy industry in the Northern Wairoa district is again illustrated by the butter output of the season which closed on May 31. During the year the production of the Mangawhare factory was 709£ tons— increase of 105 tons over the previous season's manufacture. _ Last year the sum of £63,629 was distributed amongst 358 suppliers, the amount representing 14d per lb. for but-ter-fat, but this year the company expects its disbursements to exceed £1(50.000. The company is the only one in the Dominion which, since its inception in 1902, has worked continuously throughout each year. This is due to the fine climate in Northern Kaipara, where winter dairying is a premier phase of the farming industry. July has superseded August and September as_ the period in which the bulk of the dairy herds come into profit, and extensive provision is now annually made for the cultivation of lucerne, maize, and other fodder growths, and for the manufacture of ensilage. Pedigree Jersey and Holstein cattle are now common throughout the district, but superior Shorthorns constitute the bulk of the herds.
